It may happen that VS Code stops recognizing a file type. When that happens, you lose syntax highlighting, intellisense and all the goodness of a great IDE. How can you fix this?

This happened to me shortly after I installed the May 2019 update. This is how I fixed it

  1. Open any .html file
  2. Type Ctrl + Shift + P
  3. Click Change Language Mode
  4. Click Configure File Association for .html or whichever other file type
  5. Choose the desired association
  6. Wait a couple of Minutes or restart VS Code to see the change.

But there is a shortcut

Step 1: Click HTML

That will bring up the file association selector screen, where you can then select the right file association.

These set of steps should work for any file type that VS Code stops recognizing.
